-

A sports bar plain and simple. If there's a good game on the wall to wall projection screens there are few better places in the neighborhood to watch it. But failing that there's little to recommend.

Within the gated community of Breezy Point there's little to no public parking and no public transportation, so getting to this beach bar can be more than tricky. However, if you're black, hispanic, Italian or jewish it might just be worthwhile to have a friend drop you off. The residents of this 98% white (by the latest census) neighborhood don't often get a chance to experience the wonderful blending and mingling of cultures that so many other New Yorker's take for granted and they would surely appreciate the chance.
-
477 5th Ave · South Slope
Closed; now Skylark Bar
There are dives and then there are dives where you can smell the history soaked into the stains on the floor. This blue collar bar is one of the latter. Since 1969 Timboo's has been serving beer to neighborhood residents, although it's not exactly the type of place you'd want to hang out soaking in the history.
