Overview

This huge bar is the flagship of the Amsterdam Avenue college scene. To call it frattish isn't quite accurate, better perhaps to call Columbia and Fordham frat parties Gin Millish.

History

Thirty years of Gin Millish

When we listed it, we suggested that Columbia and Fordham frat parties be called Gin Millish. The adjective has had a long run. The Gin Mill has served the Upper West Side since the mid-1990s¹, and on March 24, 2026, it marked its 30th anniversary at 442 Amsterdam Avenue, between 81st and 82nd Streets¹. It shares owners with Jake's, and an October 2026 account says it keeps pouring as it has for years².
