Overview

On weekend nights this friendly Australian BBQ restaurant turned late night pick-up scene packs its railroad digs with teeming humanity. Depending on the individual the result is either a palpable sexuality of flesh pressed to flesh or a mild agoraphobia.

History

Opened just in time for the blackout

The Sunburnt Cow took two years and five tries at different locations around the city to open, and the weekend after it finally did came the blackout of 20031. We called it a friendly Australian BBQ restaurant turned late-night pick-up scene, packed so tight on weekends that the result was either a palpable sexuality of flesh pressed to flesh or a mild agoraphobia, depending on the individual.

It was a drunk-brunch magnet, run by Heathe St. Clair's Moo Life Group1, 2. In July 2012 the Cow announced it would close for renovations and trade its deal-driven formula for more gourmet food and drink: bye-bye, drunken brunch1. It closed for good on April 27, 2014, after 11 years at 137 Avenue C1.

By June work had started on a gut renovation of the whole building that would add a floor1. In July 2018 Viking Waffles opened its first retail space at 137 Avenue C, so the address went from drunk brunch to waffles, a sort of morning after2.
