History
Scrubbed down, horseshoe intact
The drinking at this address started in 1919, at a speakeasy hidden in Ann's Beauty Shop1. In the 1940s the Ali Baba Burlesque entertained guests here, and in 1950 the Holiday Cocktail Lounge took over1.
By the end it was a gritty neighborhood dive, with a red awning, a horseshoe-shaped bar and a jukebox2. In January 2012 word came that Saturday would be its last night, and that after that, "Locks will be changed immediately"3.
It reopened in January 2015 after a painstaking three-year restoration1. The new owners kept the red awning and the horseshoe bar, but the dive had been scrubbed down, the seats replaced, and the jukebox was nowhere to be seen2. Now it's a coffee lounge from 8am to 4pm and a cocktail lounge from 4pm to 2am, every day4.
