Overview

This richly appointed hotel lounge makes an excellent venue for the rich to schedule an appointment with cognac and caviar.

History

Chesterfields by the fire, cognac in hand

Journeys was the Essex House's fireside lounge: Chesterfield sofas and armchairs around a wood-burning fireplace, mahogany-paneled walls, a 1930s transcontinental-travel theme, and 13 single malts besides the martinis, cognac and cigars^{1, 2}. The hotel's site still listed it in December 2006². The hotel is now the JW Marriott Essex House, with Bourbon Steak New York in the former lobby eatery since May 2024, and its list of restaurants has no Journeys^{3, 4, 5}.
