Overview

Although its moment in the sun has past, the B Bar and Grill remains an E. Village fixture thanks to an outstanding outdoor space and clean and classic décor.

History

From gas station to concrete shell

Bowery Bar and Grill, often called B Bar, opened in 1994 in a former gas station at the Bowery and East 4th Street1. We said its moment in the sun had passed, but the outdoor space kept it a fixture. It closed for good during the March 2020 lockdowns, and the site was cleared for a tower2. Chobani leased the whole building, all 121,000 square feet, yet in August 2026 it remained largely empty, with a ground floor still resembling a concrete shell2.
