History

Padded bumpers, and as of right now, not closing

By its fiftieth, in 2017, Nancy Whiskey Pub was celebrated for the city's only shuffleboard table with padded bumpers along the sides1. It opened in 19671, and its website at 1 Lispenard Street still says Est 19672. Bill Wall started working there in 1972 and bought the place in 19851.

Its longtime owner died in early 20223, and in June 2024 the building was sold, along with 5 Lispenard3. Melissa worked there, and her coworkers set up a GoFundMe to help her secure ownership of the business; it raised $45,0003. That September, though she was dealing with a rise in the rent, Melissa was plain about it: "As of right now, we are not closing"3.
