From shot-and-beer corner to three rooms
The corner of North Moore and Varick once held what's been described as a shot-and-beer local bar, and Jerry Walker turned it into the three-room restaurant it is today1. Our old listing called it a historic neighborhood tavern, as comfortable and worn in as a favorite pair of old tennis shoes.
Walker first came downtown in 1984 as co-owner of the landmark Ear Inn on Spring Street, and co-opened his namesake in Tribeca in 19871. In 1994 it was among the founding restaurants of Taste of Tribeca, a fundraiser for local schools1.
Walker died on December 9, 2025, at 76, by which time the place was nearly four decades old1. It's still at 16 North Moore Street, with the bar open from noon on weekdays and 11 on weekends, until 3 in the morning2, 3.
