History
The wine bar spin-off that stayed for dinner
Petrarca moved into a ground floor with a past. By 1903 the space at 34 White Street was no longer being described as an eating house but as a saloon1. By 1994 the Baby Doll Lounge had the space once occupied by Edward Kusker's saloon and gambling den1.
Petrarca opened at street level on February 1, 2006, as what The Times called Arqua's wine bar spin-off1. It's an Italian restaurant now, run by the Pulito family, with Leonardo Pulito as chef and, by the family's own billing, Antoinette as the Boss2, 3. In August 2026 the old saloon floor was booked for a Sunday comedy show by Brett Daniel2.
