Overview

Nightly live music brings in tourists, students and locals to this popular Bleeker street haunt. And every Sunday you can hit the stage yourself and belt out your favorite song backed by a live band.

History

Blondie played here, and so could you

Kenny's Castaways put on early shows by Jeff Buckley, the New York Dolls, Blondie, Kiss and Patti Smith1. When we listed it, we noted the nightly live music and pointed readers to Sundays, when anyone could hit the stage and belt out a song backed by a live band.

Its original owner, Pat Kenny, ran it until his death in 20021. It closed on October 1, 2012; the owners said the live-music business was just not what it used to be1.

A "nouveau Bleecker Street gastropub" called Carroll Place was planned for the space1. Carroll Place, an Italian American restaurant and cocktail bar, was at 157 Bleecker Street in May 20252.
