Overview

A lesbian bar so friendly, comfortable and homey that even your straight male friends will feel welcome.

History

Three closings, three comebacks

Cubbyhole calls itself the friendly neighborhood bar since 19941. When we listed it, we agreed, and then some: a lesbian bar so friendly, comfortable and homey that even your straight male friends would feel welcome.

The pandemic shut it in March 20202. It reopened outdoors only that August, then shut again in December2. In January 2022 owner Lisa Menichino closed it once more, this time to do some much-needed upgrades2.

It reopened after a 12-week renovation2. It's still at 281 West 12th Street, open until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays, as if making up for lost time1.
