History
Everything else is still secondary
The idea, as Cullman put it when he decided to build the place in May 1995, was "a place for cigars, where everything else is secondary"1. He signed a lease for 26 East 63rd Street, the former home of Quo Vadis1.
General Cigar Co. opened Club Macanudo in 19962. Cigar Aficionado calls it a remnant of the cigar boom of the '90s that has changed very little since, which for a cigar club is the whole point2.
Cigar Aficionado reports that the mural in the back showing history's most prolific cigar luminaries is still on display, and that the horseshoe bar still holds three tiers of top-shelf spirits2. The club's own site calls it the original Club Macanudo, still at 26 East 63rd Street3.
