History

Privilege at $17 a martini

Bar Seine was the colonial-themed lounge of the Hotel Plaza Athenee at 37 East 64th Street, a room we said reeked of privilege, to be inhaled deeply over a $17 martini¹. The hotel, reopened as a 160-room house in September 1984, closed on March 26, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic². A listing now marks Bar Seine out of business¹. Plans called for it to reopen in 2026 as Plaza Athenee Nobu Hotel and Spa New York².
