History

Twenty-two low-key years on Driggs

The long, narrow room at 536 Driggs Avenue had been a bar since 1937, and The Abbey opened there in 19971. The building's owner planned to fully renovate it, and on February 27, 2019, Bedford and Bowery reported that The Abbey would shutter that Thursday1. Bis Bas, a Mediterranean grill, is at 536 Driggs now2.
