Overview

After a run in with the makers of the beer of the same name the Jamaican bar Red Stripe has been redubbed Spur Tree. There's nightly DJs spinning reggae and dub, a big back garden, and tasty Jamaican food.

History

Red Stripe, then Spur Tree, now natural wine

Spur Tree started life as Red Stripe and, as our listing told it, took its new name after a run-in with the makers of the beer; we also promised nightly reggae and dub DJs and a big back garden. By 2011 Macy's Culinary Council had named owner and chef Sean John's place one of the city's hottest restaurants1. Spur Tree Lounge shuttered at 76 Orchard Street in early March 20142. Since 2020 the address has been Skin Contact, a natural wine bar3, 4, 5.
