The 710 Third Avenue Blarney Stone opened in 1952 and, spawning dozens of imitators, practically invented its own genre of New York bar1. Our old review called it half deli, half dive bar, where absurdly cheap food and cheap, oversized beers drew everyone from day laborers to traders. In 2013 the gates came down and an under-renovation sign went up, and the New York Real Estate Journal reported the property had been sold to the McSam Hotel Group1. By that September the original was no more, and in March 2015, with its 2,020-square-foot retail space sitting vacant, a full demolition permit application was filed1, 2.
Researched October 2026.
