Overview

There's little indication from the outside of the hidden treat that lies within. This cozy restaurant and bar has soft lighting, dirty silver mirrors, pressed tin tables, and a bathroom built from an old elevator that is practically a work of art.
This tiny restaurant and bar nestled in a former carriage house is the kind of place someone falls in love with. It's small, idiosynchratic and flush with personality -- Soft lighting, dirty silver mirrors, pressed tin tables, and a bathroom built from an old elevator that practically a work of art. And it seems almost magic to watch the remarkably good food prepared on just a small burner in the corner behind the bar.

History

The hidden treat is still on North Moore

Our old listing called the bathroom, built from an old elevator, practically a work of art. Smith & Mills is still on the ground floor at 71 North Moore Street1, 2. The buildings have plans of their own: in August 2026 Tribeca Citizen reported that Landmarks had approved an addition that spring, and that the two 19th-century buildings will be gutted to create two residences1. Construction, it said, will likely start the following spring1.
