A New York on Tap pick

Bayard's Ale House

533 Hudson St.
West Village, Manhattan

In 2026

Still pouring

Checked October 16, 2026.

Overview

This warm and worn new arrival has the look and feel of a pub far older than its years. Twenty beers on tap and a solid bar menu will hopefully ensure longevity to match its appearance.

History

Growing into its looks

In November 2006, Eater reported that Sazerac House, the restaurant at the corner of Charles Street, had closed after apparently 40 years, and that a sign promised Bayard Ale House in its stead, likely by mid-November1. We called the new arrival warm and worn, with the look of a pub far older than its years, and hoped its longevity would catch up with its appearance. It's still at 533 Hudson Street, where it calls itself a traditional, wood-lined Irish pub2. Its age is catching up with its looks.
