History

Hospitality, by order of Brehon Law

John Kelly, who hails from Dublin, opened the Parlour at 250 West 86th Street with two partners in 19971, 2, and by 2005 he was the Irish pub's sole owner1. Its name references a Brehon Law that demanded every town in Ireland have a parlour where travelers could receive hospitality1. By October 2021 it had closed after more than 23 years, with a farewell to the staff who "made us who we are"3, and the broker was asking $20,000 a month for the space3. After extensive renovations, the space opened in 2022 as Crossbar, a cafe, restaurant and event space devoted to soccer, from the owners of the soccer shop Upper 904, 5.
