Brooklyn
-
1213 Boardwalk · Coney Island
Still pouring
Opened in 1975 Ruby's is one of only two remaining pubs on the boardwalk. Sitting on the patio overlooking the boardwalk with a $6 plastic cup of domestic draft remains a singular pleasure.
-
Bedford Ave & Oceanside · Manhattan Beach
Still pouring
Within the gated community of Breezy Point there's little to no public parking and no public transportation, so getting to this beach bar can be more than tricky. However, if you're black, hispanic, Italian or jewish it might just be worthwhile to have a friend drop you off. The residents of this 98% white (by the latest census) neighborhood don't often get a chance to experience the wonderful blending and mingling of cultures that so many other New Yorker's take for granted and they would surely appreciate the chance.
-
400 Carroll St. · Gowanus
Closed
A huge outdoor space by the Gowanus canal hosts a range of dance friendly live music and DJ events that attract hipsters, neighborhood locals, families, gays, straights, and every in between.
