Alma didn't move into a building; it built one1. In 2002 three partners bought a vacant lot in Red Hook and put up the three-story restaurant from the ground up1.
In 2024 Roberto Lopez and Emilio Sanchez took over, sprucing up the floors and decor on all three levels1. To keep Alma intact, chef Francisco Lopez, who'd been there for 20 years, stayed put in the kitchen, still cooking Pueblan food, the food of his Mexican hometown1. It's still at 187 Columbia Street2.
Researched October 2026.
