History
Boarded up sixty years, then a crowbar
The Village Voice tells it this way: the landmarked building was boarded up for 60 years, until "some enterprising souls crowbarred the place open"1. Inside they found a pristine bar, tin ceiling, fixtures and tables, "like a Marie Celeste of pubs"1.
The bar now claims a 100-year-old history, and wears it: an antique wood bar, original tin ceilings and brick walls, paired with an outdoor garden2. It calls itself a classic New York City watering hole in the hottest neighborhood in Queens2.
It's still at 45-58 Vernon Blvd., with events on the calendar for late October 20262.
