History

One step ahead of the wrecking ball

The Shannon Pot has had three homes since it was founded in 1999, and it was forced out of the first two to make way for development1.

The first was 45-06 Davis Street, where it spent 14 years2, 3; we knew it there as a low-key, somewhat gritty Irish bar with a tasty burger, whose regulars had learned to clear out on Saturdays when the nearby PS 1 "warm up" crowd took over.

In January 2014 it closed there, its building set to be razed, and by February it had reopened at 21-59 44th Drive2, 3. In 2018 development caught up with it again, and it moved to 10-50 44th Drive1. It is still there: in November 2025 it was on a community board agenda, applying for a sidewalk café4.
