History
Named for a river, and it keeps moving
The Shannon Pot was named for the spot in County Cavan where the River Shannon is said to rise1. For 14 years it sat at Davis Street and Jackson Avenue2, a popular stop for visitors to 5Pointz and MoMA PS13.
It closed in January 2014, its building set to be razed for a pair of high-rise apartment towers4. As it was closing, the cold burst the pipes and flooded the bar2. A bar named for the source of a river deserved a drier send-off.
Later that month it reopened two blocks away at 21-59 44th Drive, under the 7 train1, 3. The owner brought the lights, the chairs, the tables and the bar itself1. Two years later permits were filed to redevelop that site too, and it faced moving again5.
By 2024 it was at 10-50 44th Drive6, and in November 2025 it applied for a sidewalk café there7.
