Overview
Small and unpretentious this enoteca serves wine by the glass or carafe and tasty Italian tapas.
History
The sister cafe that outlasted the restaurant
Il Posto Accanto was the small sister cafe next door to Il Bagatto on East Second Street1, and Tosti di Valminuta and her husband, Julio Pena, had run it since 19992. When we listed it, it was an unpretentious enoteca pouring wine by the glass or carafe, with tasty Italian tapas.
In late July 2013, Il Bagatto took its usual summer break and never reopened1. The cafe next door carried on, and Il Bagatto's food stayed available there for delivery1.
After New York's mandated closure in 2020, it was time to improvise2. Il Posto Accanto is open every day, noon to midnight, at 190 East Second Street3.
