History

No sign, just Deli & Grocery

In May 2004 Mama's Bar had just opened beside its sibling, the East Village comfort-food capital Mama's Food Shop¹. Owner Michael "Mama" Rosenfeld meant to keep it low-profile and low-key¹. The green awning out front still read "Deli & Grocery," and there was no sign in sight¹. When we listed it, we called it a low-key neighborhood theatre and artist hangout, so the plan held.
