History
A famous name, far from First Avenue
Our listing put Club New York at 1487 First Avenue, but the Club New York that made the news, a Times Square venue, stood at 43rd Street and Eighth Avenue1, 2. It was the scene of an infamous 1999 shooting, in which Jamal "Shyne" Barrow, Sean Combs's former protege, shot three clubgoers and more than 300 people stampeded onto 43rd Street1, 2, 3, 4. In July 2011 Gatecrasher reported that the club might reopen3. At 1487 First Avenue the buildings came down in the summer of 2022, and Club Pilates lists a studio there now5, 6.
