History

Seventy years, then last call

Smith's was an Irish bar at 701 Eighth Avenue, at West 44th Street, that opened in 1954^{1, 2}. When we listed it, we called it a Times Square landmark, with live music six nights a week. It spent a long stretch temporarily shuttered, and in December 2024 the New York Post reported that it had closed for good the week before^{1, 2}. Elevation HQ now lists its Midtown location at 701 Eighth Avenue³.
