The Birdland on West 44th Street is the club's third incarnation1. The first started on December 15, 1949, at 1678 Broadway1, and closed in 19651.
Twenty years later, in 1985, a new Birdland opened on the Upper West Side at 2745 Broadway, initially owned by John R. Valenti1. In 1996 Valenti moved the club to West 44th Street1.
When we listed it, we said the steep cover charges and drink minimums meant you'd leave feeling you had gotten exactly what you paid for. Thirty years after the move, it still lists 315 West 44th Street, with shows on Friday, October 161, 2.
