Before it was a bar, this corner in the shadow of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway was a pest-control and swimming-pool-supply store1. Alyssa Abeyta and Zeb Stewart opened Union Pool there in 20001, 2.
It started as a neighborhood corner bar, where regulars played darts and everyone knew each other, and grew into what it calls a multi-bar entertainment hive1. Our old listing allowed that anyone who'd lived in Williamsburg more than a year would call the scene past its sell-by date, then said a fall weeknight spot by the firepit in the back garden was a treasure anyway.
In July 2022 a five-alarm fire damaged the place and closed it for a month3. Union Pool's food pantry, more than five years in, is a tight ship of 10 to 15 volunteers bagging fresh produce and nonperishables for 150 neighbors, plus 250 hot meals2.
Twenty-five years on, it's still standing at 484 Union Avenue2, 4. The sell-by date keeps getting extended.
Researched October 2026.
