History

Game over, in about three years

When we listed Barcade, we called it the perfect marriage of bar and arcade: a huge industrial room with dozens of vintage video games and cask-conditioned ale among its brews. It opened on October 14, 2004¹. Esquire put it on a list of the best bars in America in 2008¹, and in 2013 Foursquare named it New York City's best bar¹.

In July 2026 came its own last call, well in advance: its longtime home at 388 Union Avenue will close for good when the lease ends¹. Time Out noted that was still nearly three years away¹. It's the rare closing notice that leaves time to beat your high score.
