Overview

With a view like this you can forgive all of this roof deck bars flaws.
Thanks in part to the sheer size of the space upstairs, the line outside is almost always a product of a limited supply of elevators rather than a strict door policy. This means that unlike most bars with roof decks the demographic here is representative of who wants to be here, rather than who promoters have pulled in, and who the door men have kept out. Gel haired Jersey boys and Long Island girls in stripper shoes mingle with tourists in their best khakis and loafers, but with a jaw dropping view like this one everyone has something to talk about.

Why you should go

  • No matter how jaded a New Yorker you are, you have to admit that the view from the 20th floor is nothing short of amazing.
  • The space is truly massive, so even on a Saturday night you can still find space. The roof deck and lounge combined are over 20,000 SF.

  • The line outside might look intimidating, but it moves fast. They're not keeping people out, just trying to shuffle them into elevators as efficiently as possible
  • The door is relatively relaxed, but you still might have problems if you show up in just a tank top and sandals.
  • The drinks are club prices: $13 cocktails, $9 Beers.

    A view on a long lease

    230 Fifth opened in 2006 and covers 32,050 square feet of indoor and outdoor space1. Our old review called the view worth a nine-dollar beer, and enough to forgive the roof deck its flaws. In 2024 Rooftop Hospitality Group signed a 12-year lease extension at 230 Fifth Avenue, so the roof deck is spoken for a while yet1.
