Overview
Warm lighting and a killer jukebox help will help make Commonwealth a Park Slope fixture.
History
A pretty decent bar, by its own account
As of 2023, each of the roughly 2,000 tracks on Commonwealth's jukebox had its performer and title painstakingly listed in Ray Burnett Gish's handwriting, spread across 100 custom CDs he made from his own collection1.
Gish founded the bar in 20042. Our old listing predicted that the warm lighting and a killer jukebox would make it a Park Slope fixture, and for once we were right.
Gish died on October 31, 2024, at 592. The bar he founded still calls itself "a pretty decent bar" at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 12th Street, open every day until 4 in the morning3.
