History

Empire State views at Bud prices

Me Bar, on the La Quinta's roof, was a cheap seat with close views of the Empire State Building: in 2011 a bottle of Bud cost $5¹. In 2014 the hotel finished a three-year renovation, and the 14th-floor bar got a new name, VU Bar, and new management, but kept its rock-bottom prices^{2, 3}. The building, which may have started life as the Aberdeen Hotel in the early 1900s, sold in 2019 for $56.5 million and operates today as The Hotel @ Fifth Avenue^{2, 4, 5}.
