Overview
Landmark NYC leather bar is surprisingly friendly and low key.
History
From leather bar to deli counter
Rawhide, the landmark leather bar we found surprisingly friendly and low key, opened in 19791. In 2013 a new landlord raised the rent from $15,000 to $27,000 a month, and the bar's last day at 212 Eighth Avenue was set for March 311. The ground floor is now Heavenly Markets & Deli2. The name came back in 2026 at 250 West 26th Street, where Club Rawhide is billed as a tribute to the bars and clubs of the decades when Rawhide was open3.
