History
The murals stayed. So did the bar.
El Quijote's bar once counted Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe among its regulars1. The Spanish restaurant on the ground floor of the Hotel Chelsea opened in 19302.
After nearly 90 years it was set to close on March 30, 20182. It reopened in February 2022 under new management, Brooklyn's Sunday Hospitality group and its partner, restaurateur Charles Seich1. The Don Quixote murals remain, and so does that bar1.
It's open daily from 5 to 11pm at 226 West 23rd Street, still part of the Hotel Chelsea3, 4.
