In 2026

Still pouring

Checked October 16, 2026.

Overview

A close second to McSorleys Ale House for title of oldest bar in NYC. Pete's Tavern is a surprisingly low key place for a quality pint, although you may wish to stear clear of the food.

History

Same Gramercy corner since the 1860s

Pete's Tavern has poured drinks on the same Gramercy corner, 129 East 18th Street at Irving Place, since the 1860s1. Our old listing ranked it a close second to McSorley's for the title of oldest bar in the city, and a surprisingly low-key place for a quality pint. It's still open seven days a week, from noon to 2 in the morning2.
