History

Seventeen years on Hudson, still playing on Broadway

In 1996 Dale Fitzgerald presented the first New York performance by the Cuban jazz pianist and composer Chucho Valdes1. The Jazz Gallery dated from 19951; a practice and rehearsal space had been leased at 290 Hudson Street in 19921.

In December 2012 the gallery learned it would lose 290 Hudson, its home of 17 years2. It held one final weekend of shows there3 and moved to the fifth floor of a building on Broadway2. It's still on Broadway: in 2025, at 1158 Broadway, it celebrated its 30th anniversary1.

Back at 290 Hudson, an Italian restaurant was announced in 20184: Nonna Beppa, from chef Wendy Cacciatori of Via Emilia 9 in Miami Beach5. NYC Tourism now lists it as out of business6.
