History

The college dive that won't stay put

We had it at 108 Third Avenue, but it moved to 221 Second Avenue, re-established there in March 2009^{1, 2}. Our review caught the new digs: a totally new bar that was still the prototypical college dive.

The Second Avenue bar closed for good in December 2020, after the pandemic and a failure to reach an agreement with its landlord².

Starlight Convenience now has the old 108 Third Avenue address³. Finnerty's came back in 2025 with a long-awaited reopening in Midtown, at 18 West 33rd Street⁴, where it bills itself as the San Francisco Giants' home away from home⁴.
