Overview

Tiny, ground floor hotel lounge feels bigger with the judicious use of mirrors. And with clientele as attractive as this being in close quarters doesn't seem like such a bad thing. Note: Head left at the aquarium.

History

Turn left at the two-story fish tank

Vikram Chatwal turned the old Majestic Hotel into a luxury lodge with a trippy slumberland theme in 2004¹, with a lobby dominated by a two-story tubular fish tank and an enormous statue of Catherine the Great¹. When we listed its lounge, our directions said to head left at the aquarium, which is easy enough when the aquarium is two stories tall¹. A renovation reworked the ground-floor lobby bar and renamed the hotel from Dream New York to Dream Midtown², and by 2016 it had a craft cocktail bar called the Rickey, all plush green walls and vintage gold tables³. The hotel at 210 West 55th Street now runs as Dream Midtown by Hyatt⁴.
