Overview

Since the 1920's this Irish saloon has been serving perfect pints of Guinness to an after work crowd. On weekend nights this bar like the rest of those in the area succumbs to a heavy drinking frattish crowd.

History

A century of wood paneling on 79th Street

The sign went up in 1933, when Dublin House became a legal bar; the Caraway family, from Ireland, had opened it during Prohibition, in 19211.

Longtime bartender Mike Cormican, from County Galway, bought it in 2006 to keep the tradition going1. When we listed it, the tradition was perfect pints of Guinness for the after-work crowd. It has since had a turn on screen, in the tenth episode of the second season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel2.

NY1 found the bar pretty much unchanged since it opened, wood paneling and two-person booths included, though the pandemic had closed it for nearly a year and a half1. Customers, NY1 reported, were glad the doors were open once again1.

It's still at 225 West 79th Street3, open daily from noon to 4am3.
