Still pouring

Overview

This country and western dive bar is cheap, dirty and smells of piss and vomit, but unlike Coyote Ugly and Hogs & Heifers the bar dancing here is spontaneous not choreographer and there's nary a tourist or collared shirt in the place.

History

Spontaneous, not choreographed

Doc Holliday's threw itself an annual Prom Night1. Our listing liked that the bar dancing was spontaneous, not choreographed, and that there was nary a tourist or collared shirt in the place.

It opened on April 6, 1994, on Avenue A at East Ninth Street2, 3. In September 2013 the street artist STIK painted Liberty, a four-story mural, on the side of its building4, 5, and in 2014 the bar turned 203.

It closed in March 2020 for the pandemic and stayed shut, promising, "don't worry we will be back"2, 6. It kept the promise in June 2021, when its owners, who also run Milano's, the Library and d.b.a., reopened it6.

In April 2026 the building was repainted, and the landlord was surprised by the outpouring of support on social media for Liberty5, 7. Doc Holliday's is still there7.
