History

The angels took the mural with them

The way into Angel's Share was through a Japanese restaurant and up to the second floor, and the bar up there directly influenced Sasha Petraske, who went on to found Milk & Honey1. It opened in 1993, under owner Tadao "Tony" Yoshida1. We liked it for the exacting cocktails, the big window over the square below, and the small thrill of finding it at all.

Its last night on Stuyvesant Street was March 31, 2022, after a rent dispute with Cooper Union2. That summer it came back as a pop-up in the Hotel Eventi in Midtown1.

The permanent room turned out to be 45 Grove Street, which opened on June 14, 2023, and brought back the original angel mural from the East Village bar1, 3. Back at 8 Stuyvesant Street, Kotobuki East Village opened for full service in October 20264.
