Overview

Solid food and a lively after work crowd has helped keep this neighborhood bar going for the last 25 years.

History

The artists' hangout that stayed put

Under Kenn Reisdorff and his brother Bob, the Broome Street Bar became an artists' hangout: De Kooning, Oldenburg and Haring, to name a few1. It had opened in 19721. Our old listing gave the credit for its staying power to solid food and a lively after-work crowd.

In March 2014 came word that Kenn Reisdorff had died, and that the bar would go with him1.

It didn't go: by February 2015 Julie Reisdorff had taken over her father's bar and signed a new five-year lease2, 3. That spring it took on a new partner who had been a regular for 35 years3.

Kenn's name is still on it: it's Kenn's Broome Street Bar now, at 363 West Broadway4.
