Overview

A succession of straight bars (Ice Bar, Patio) have tried and failed to make a home here. Now it's finally gay as the day with the aim of providing an upscale alternative to its next door neighbors The Urge and The Cock.

History

The pretty one on the block

DTox was the pretty one on its stretch of Second Avenue, next door to the Cock and the Urge, with parties like Sugar Daddy Sundays and Pop Secret Tuesdays1. If EV Grieve recalled correctly, the Urge moved in from next door after DTox closed2; the Urge itself closed at the start of 20133. Developer Ben Shaoul bought the building for $5.6 million in 2011, then gutted and expanded it into a residential complex4, 5. The storefront was an Unleashed by Petco from 2015 until January 2018, and sat empty after that4, 5; in January 2026 a new bar leased it, though it was unclear then when it would open5, 6.
