History
Show tunes uptown, three karaoke nights a week
Time Out wrote in 2011 that uptown gays had a place to call home-away-from-home in this show-tune-loving spot, with bar food and nightly entertainment to keep them fed and amused1. Suite opened in 2004, taking the place of Saints, an earlier gay bar that had closed in 20032. By one account it's the only Indian-owned gay bar in New York City2.
The pandemic shut it for three months, and it still had to pay rent2. Then the bar staff quit to move out of state, unable to keep up with the cost of living in New York, and Balachandran and his business partners took shifts themselves to keep the doors open2. In 2021 it was recovering, with a slow increase in customers and revenue2.
The city's restaurant inspectors file it as Roti Roll / Suite3. Wednesday, Friday and Sunday are karaoke nights with Victoria Chase4, so the show tunes still have somewhere to go.
