History

From the Black Rabbit to Goldinferno

Before it was 1849, 183 Bleecker Street was a dive bar called the Black Rabbit, frequented by gay men1. 1849 worked both floors: in 2005 it had a DJ and pool tables upstairs and large-screen TVs downstairs2.

In 2016 the owner had declared bankruptcy, and a buyer was purchasing the business3. By that December The Anthony, a restaurant, lounge and nightlife venue, was open at 183 Bleecker Street4.

The address now belongs to Goldinferno, a jewelry business5.
