In the spring of 2006, a new bar called Home Sweet Home was slated to open in May at 131 Chrystie Street, below a retail and art space1. By December the Village Voice found a cozy three-month-old bar, underground, with no sign and a secretive air2. Three women owned it2.
When we listed it, we called it an unmarked bar with a garage-sale design ethic, a grungy bar for the unselfconsciously hip that recalled the Lower East Side of ten years before.
By 2019 the business ran as Home Sweet Home in the basement and Fig 19 on the ground floor3. It's still at 131 Chrystie Street, where an event was listed for 10pm on Friday, June 26, 20264, 5.
Researched October 2026.
