Overview

An "in crowd" dive, that somehow manages to fend off pretense with strong measures of eccentricity and grime to form an oaisis of downtown cool in the 40s.

What you should know

  • The entrance is unmarked. Black door. Red light.
  • House rules. No Cursing. No hitting on women.
  • The old Siberia was in a subway station, it had eight stools and a one couch, commuters mingled with punks, it was home to a million stories, the stuff of legend, and sadly thanks to Mitsubishi Corp. no more.

History

Newer digs, same grin

When we listed it, our headline asked "New digs, same vibe?" and we called Siberia an in-crowd dive that fended off pretense with strong measures of eccentricity and grime. The digs are new again: in September 2025 Siberia opened quietly in the Turnstyle Underground Market at Columbus Circle, with the familiar grin of proprietor Tracy Westmoreland on hand1. "Siberia is back," Time Out announced1. Its old home at 356 West 40th Street turned up in a March 2026 community board letter as the address of a microbusiness for Greenleaf Cannabis LLC2.
