Overview

The working class roots that the area's many art school dropouts are at such pains to emulate are evident in spades at this Williamsburg dive, but there's no need to worry that the hipsters will take over. This bar has top notch hipster repellent - heavy metal. This leaves the associated regulars to profess their love for the free tater tots without worrying about the quality of their ironic lilt.

History

Free tater tots met a quintupled rent

Heavy metal and free tater tots were the draws we noted at Trash Bar, a Williamsburg dive that opened in 20041.

It lasted eleven years1. Then its rent quintupled, and the bar closed after a farewell party on Saturday, June 27, 20151.

In October 2016 word came that Overthrow, a boutique boxing gym, was taking over the old space2. Today 256 Grand Street is home to Southside Boxing3.
